When moving house there are many things to take into consideration, especially if you’re moving with  children! As a parent you may worry about the negative effects moving might have on your little one(s). Below we’ve included some hints and tips that might help the whole experience run smoother for everyone!

Whether you decide to tell your children you’re moving earlier or later, be sure to make it a positive thing! Every negative they might question you on, turn it into something exciting eg. leaving friends – they will get to keep in touch with old friends, and also get to make loads of new friends!

Before the move, it could be a good idea to plan a fun family day out in your new local area? Maybe a trip to the local park? Or a family meal out? This will give the whole family a chance to get familiar with the new surroundings!

As moving day gets closer, why not have the kids pack their own things.. this may only work to an extent before they’ll need a helping hand, but get them to plan where everything will go in their new bedroom, and think about how they would like it decorated. The general idea is to build excitement as apose to nerves.

On the day of the move, it may be a good idea to leave the children with a friend or family member, even if just for a couple of hours. No matter how prepared you are, it’s bound to be a busy day and this could be make more difficult if you’re having to keep an eye on little ones. This will also give you a chance to get a few things set up before they arrive, maybe put some familiar pictures up, or make sure they can get to their boxes and start putting everything in its place.

The most important thing is to make moving house as fun as possible! It won’t be long before they are settled in and ready to take over the new area!
